Applying Goodwin's theory of music videos, the structure of Guns and horses Music video resembles a disjuncture video because the meaning of the lyrics does not reflect in the music. However, there is a connection them between the lyric
' we've got our guns and horses' in the music video they demonstrate this by creating a civil war battle field and having the iconic image of a horse appearing in the music video. But this theme does not run all the way through because we focus more on the artist (Ellie Goulding) wondering through the forest, we are unclear whether she is trying to find something or that she is lost and trying to discover who she is. We get an idea of this when she is made to have a mystical glow around in a low angle shot of her. Furthermore, he artist (Ellie Goulding) looks directly at the camera to make it personal to the her intended target audience.
Applying Carol Vernalis theory the editing is obvious as there are slow motion shots of the dancers and that are effects on Ellie Goulding in the forest being enlightened. However at the beginning of the music video it has slow edits. As there is a slow zoom in to Ellie Gouldings face, at the same time as the beat of the music. In some shots we see Ellie Gouldings fully body, but then we quickly
cut to her face, which helps draws attention to the her. Although at the beginning there are slow edits, when the beat picks up the editing becomes much faster this indicates that music video has been shaped around the music video.
There are various base tracks in the music video. It can be argued that most of the music video is shaped around the base tracks. Below are screen shots of the base tracks they I have spot in the Guns and Horses Music video.
There are jump cuts in the music video, the effect of this is to once again to again the audience attention. Also it exaggerates the beat of the music and enforces the audience to feel the upbeat notion of the song.
Applying Laura Mulveys theory to Guns and Horses. In the Guns and Horses music video the male gaze theory doesn't apply to it. As there are no unnecessary shots of women n showing desirable body parts. However, Ellie Goulding has created a female that seems to be lost and vulnerable because she is wondering through a park, trying to look for something. Is it suggest that women, in particular, girls that wish they can be in a relationship that is reciprocal found it hard to understand and feel lost and lonely.
Moreover the use of the men and women wearing civil war attire imply that love is a battle Field, but in this case Ellie Goulding does no where she stands as she feels lost in the middle of it.
How is our music video going to be different.
Our music video will be different then this because with apt to have an amplification music video. Therefore we want to narrate the story of feeling frustrated and in love. Even the though the title of the song is Guns and Horses we are not going to have Guns or Horses in the music video. Neither are we going to have dancers in the background expressing the artist feelings. The artist is going to do this by acting it out.
At the end of the music video we are going to come to some sort of conclusion as the artist is going to talk to him. In the Guns and Horses music video we are faced by Ellie Goulding spinning around with the camera on set and we can see the crew in the background.
We have chosen to shot in the forest but this is only when we have the mystical enchanted scenes, where the artist is dreaming. But reality we will be using markets stools where it gives of and indie feel to the music video, but just to represent normal everyday life.
The effects of the smoke machine is not going to happen as it will be an unnecessary aspect at it would be as if we are copying and not fulfilling our own music video.
